Articles - ContinuedNot Responding Errors Have you ever experienced the problem of logging onto Windows or running some program and getting a “not responding” error? This frustrating computer error has happened to countless computer users. Like a lot of people, you may be wondering why you received a this error. Some, but not all of the causes could include: Possible hardware issues ( conflicts ) that exist on your PC, a file known as a ‘password list’ is corrupted, a software program that would load upon startup clashes with another application, a network adapter is not properly functioning, a reserved phrase or word is being used as one of the users name. If one is able to determine the cause of the ‘not responding’ error there are several avenues to pursue to try and rectify the situation. One thing that can be done is to redo your ‘pwl’ or password list file. Another option is to try and re-boot your computer system in ‘safe mode’ and see if this makes any difference. Another idea to try might be to check for any hardware conflicts that could exist on the PC. One can do this by going into the device manager area in the control panel and be on the lookout for any hardware icons that show a red X or yellow exclamation mark and then disabling that particular device. There could also be issues with software ‘drivers’, or programs that essentially run components of a PC, i.e. a modem, printer or wireless router. The best way to check for malfunctioning or out of date drivers would be to go to the manufacturers web page and look for an area where the latest versions of the drivers can be downloaded. It is advisable to download drivers for as many components as you can and then promptly install them. If there is any literature or help sections, it would make sense to download these as well to provide necessary information and instructions. If a users profile is the cause of a not responding error, try to log on as one of the users who is not experiencing technical difficulties and then try to find the users profile that is not functioning as it should and re-locate that particular users folder to another area. After that, log off and try logging on as the user who was experiencing the technical issues and see if by moving the folder this was able to remedy the situation. Perhaps one of the users on the computer was using a ‘reserved word’ as a user name. This can cause some errors. Some reserved words include: com1 ….. com4, prn, aux, con and lpt1 …. Lpt4. Not only can these steps take a great deal of time, they can also be very daunting and overwhelming to many computer users. There is a software program which can do this automatically and save you the time and effort of trying to solve this issue manually. Download RegCure to solve your ‘not responding’ issues in a matter of minutes.
