Dealing With Memory Errors
Believe it or not, even with over 2,000 MB of memory on board, today’s computers still run out of memory. If you remember the days when memory was measured in single digits – yes, 8 MB computers used to exist – then you are likely to think 2 full gigabytes ought to be enough to handle anything. The trouble with memory is the more memory computers are capable of, the more programs are written to use it up. Today’s programs are loaded with features and features need memory. Today’s operating systems need it too. Not too long ago, 512 MB of memory was more than enough. Today, it’s a minimum requirement. Tomorrow it will be pitiful. Today’s computers are capable of tasks unimaginable to those old 8 MB machines. You can edit videos, create multimedia presentations, render complex graphics and animations, work with large dimensional databases, and much more on an off-the-shelf PC. These tasks can be handled because of processor power and memory. Your modern software requires a good deal of RAM in order to carry out these complex functions. One way to avoid a memory error is to be careful about what you allow to automatically load each time you reboot your PC. Many software installation programs default the setup to allow your new software to load automatically with Windows. While this may be handy, each program that loads takes a bite out of your system’s resources. If you have enough programs loading, soon your resources begin to dwindle. The rub is that your overall performance suffers and you aren’t even using any of the applications! On top of that, memory errors may necessitate a re-boot which interrupts your work and starts the whole process over. Of course, a physical malfunction can be a possible cause of memory errors. Before you run out and spend money on replacement parts, try a few steps first. These steps do require a small investment in software tools but these tools are highly recommended even in the absence of memory errors. Not only do your software programs and operating system gobble up memory, other programs such as spyware do too. If you have enough programs and processes requiring a little chunk of your resources, pretty soon you are faced with a memory error – even on machines with 2000 MB! You’d be surprised at how many spyware, adware, and other malicious programs can sneak onto your PC. With each one loading at startup and performing their clandestine tasks, it’s no wonder MS Word won’t load. First, stop the spyware and malicious programs in their tracks. You’ll need an anti-spyware software solution but these days, that’s a given. If you don’t have one, your first priority is to find one right away. After removing the spyware, you may have remnants left in your Windows registry. These malicious programs make all kinds of changes to your system including the registry. While most spyware removal tools do a good job of eliminating the executable programs, they may miss some of the registry entries. Use a registry cleaner such as RegCure from ParetoLogic to clean out the junk and free up memory. This little tool is smart and easy to use. RegCure solves thousands of computer errors including memory errors and spyware registry remnant cleaning. In fact, COM/ActiveX, uninstall entries, font entries, application paths, help files information, shared DLLs, Windows startup items, empty registry keys, file and path references, shell extensions, and program shortcuts can all be cured with RegCure. Remember all those wonderful software programs that are loading each time you turn on your PC? Solve your memory error by cleaning up these startup items with RegCure. RegCure has an option for removing programs from the startup file with a few simple mouse-clicks. The RegCure tool is much easier to access and use than Windows tools such as config.sys. Removing these programs from the startup file only stops them from automatically loading at startup. They are always accessible using traditional software application launching techniques. By stopping spyware, adware, and other malicious programs from hogging your memory, eliminating registry remnants, and adjusting your Windows startup items, you will conserve your precious memory and avoid memory errors.
