Dealing With ActiveX Errors
Active X errors can manifest themselves for a variety of reasons. Sometimes an Active X error is due to security settings on your computer, other times you may get a message saying that an Active X component can’t perform or be found, and still other times you may have a corrupt system file. No matter what the reason, Active X errors can be alarming. Active X is a technology similar to Java applets that let web designers create dynamic pages. Because this technology has been abused by unscrupulous virus and spyware packagers, many computers are set not to run ActiveX programming. If you wish to change your security settings and enable Active X, here’s how to do it: Go into Internet Explorer and choose the “Tools” menu. Scroll down to “Internet Options”. Next, click on the “Security” tab. Choose “Custom Level” and make sure the following selections are enabled: þRun ActiveX controls and plug-ins þScript ActiveX controls marked safe for scripting þScripting Next, click on the “OK” button to confirm your selections. Because enabling ActiveX controls could open your system to spyware and viruses, make sure that your security software is current and updated. If you don’t have an anti-spyware program as part of your internet security plans, now is the time to get one. In today’s environment, spyware has grown to epidemic levels. Active X controls can execute malicious codes without your knowledge and you could become the next victim. If your web browser is set to enable Active X controls and you are still receiving Active X errors, chances are your errors are the result of something else including file corruption, a bad software installation (or un-installation), or possibly spyware. After you’ve run your anti-virus and anti-spyware programs and you are still faced with ugly Active X errors, the next step is to deal with the corruption or missing files. If you’ve recently installed or un-installed a new software program, that could be the culprit. Try re-installing the software and see if that solves the Active X problems. When installations or un-installations don’t complete properly, they leave incomplete remnants and instructions in the Windows registry. These incomplete instructions can cause hundreds of computer errors, including Active X errors. This brings us to the next step towards solving your Active X errors, registry cleaning. By cleaning the registry of these remnants, you will eliminate the errors at their root. But this is a task best left to either a highly-trained professional or a software utility designed for the job. The highly-trained professional will likely use a software utility and charge you a bundle. Instead, cut out the middleman and download one of our recommended registry cleaners and do it yourself. By using a software solution to solve your Active X errors, you will get an added bonus, an increase in system performance and speed. By cleaning all the unneeded registry instructions, you are in fact optimizing your PC. The operating system will no longer be carrying out hundreds of useless processes and spending its valuable resources on tasks that are unneeded. This makes your operating system much more efficient. It will run like it did back when you first bought it. Not only will your registry-related Active X errors disappear, your PC will speed up!
